Christmas Tree Recycling is back!
It's beginning to look a lot like... Christmas Tree Recycling!
We are back to collect real Christmas trees in Havering and Brentwood for the sixth year between 11th - 14th January 2024 and this year we are aiming to raise £30,000 for the people in our care.
How it works
So how does it work? Our service is designed to take the stress out of getting rid of a real Christmas tree whilst supporting patient care at the same time! All you have to do is register your real Christmas tree on our website and make a donation and then leave it outside ready for collection on the specified dates in January.
Our volunteers will then pick it up over the course of the weekend and then bring it back for chipping in one of our chipping stations across the community. The chippings will then be used for bio fuel or sent to farms by our chippers so the tree does not end up in landfill.
The service is run by volunteers who give up their time to collect and chip the trees, so all the donations can go towards the hospice. On each day of the campaign, our army of volunteers arrive at the hospice in the morning where they are met with warm bacon rolls and lots of coffee to set them up for the day. They are given addresses to collect Christmas trees from and they spend the whole day driving around collecting real Christmas Trees! It is a day of extremely hard work but it is also so much fun!
Our volunteer, Alfie, tells us about what its like to collect Christmas trees as part of this campaign.
Last year we had 42 vans over the weekend going out into the community, free lunches for all volunteers donated, 5 local drop off points and raised £26,000. This year we will be doing the same again, but hope to raise £30,000 in total!
This year we are delighted that The Sharp Group have agreed to sponsor the campaign to cover the costs.
We now need your help to tell everyone you know that this service is available! Tell your family, tell your friends and share everywhere you can so we can raise as much money as we can for the people in our care. And if you have a real Christmas tree - make sure you register with us and donate to help the people in our care!
