Carers Week - The challenge of caring for a loved one during covid-19

The informal carers of our patients, are often, unsung heroes providing regular support and care for the person they love.
So, this Carers Week, we would like to take the opportunity to publicly acknowledge them and thank them for all they do.
During the Covid 19 restrictions their input has become even more vital and valued, as face to face contact is restricted.
Often this care is at the expense of carers own wellbeing, as they push their own needs into the background whilst they take on the role of housekeeper, handyperson, gardener, driver, administrator, medicine dispenser, provider of personal care, companion and monitor of symptoms.
Here, at Saint Francis Hospice, we recognise the expertise of this army of carers.
We understand that they know the person they are caring for better than we ever could, and always take seriously their concerns and observations.
We strive to work in partnership with each family, and in doing so, hope to share their load and provide them with the support they need at this difficult time. Indeed, providing emotional and practical support to carers is an integral part of the care the hospice offers - Carers we salute you!
