Hospice takes service users to see Christmas lights in London
At Saint Francis Hospice, we know how important it is for people to make memories with their loved ones. Over the weekend of 9th and 10th December, Saint Francis Hospice took 50 people and their families on a magical trip to London to see the lights.
This is the second year the hospice has organised the experience in association with the charity ACROSS who run a Jumbulance - a specially adapted coach that is medically equipped so people who are seriously ill are able to travel in a bed.
“It was a privilege to be part of a super Saint Francis Hospice team providing an opportunity to experience the magic of London at Christmas for people and their families, for whom making memories and sharing happy family times is so cherished,” said Dr Gemma Constable.
As the bus made its way to the capital, past the famous landmarks and along Oxford and Bond Street, Christmas music was played and people enjoyed mulled wine, mince pies and treats.

Nick Brennan, who was with his wife Carla and their three children, said, “My wife was admitted to Saint Francis Hospice for palliative care, and we were invited to go as a family on the Jumbulance to see the lights.
“My wife and three children were very keen and after a discussion with one of the nurses we signed up.
“To say it was a roaring success isn’t giving it enough credit.
“It will be one of our last trips out as a family and the staff on board could not have done more for us.
“My wife felt safe and looked after and the children. and I, were thoroughly spoiled as we travelled to London to see the sights.
“It really was a magical experience. The level of care given whilst on the journey was exemplary and we will forever be grateful.
“Thank you, Saint Francis Hospice, for helping us to make memories and to enjoy ourselves whilst going through a very difficult time.”
Young adults group join the trip
On the Sunday young adults with a life-limiting condition who were under the care of a children’s hospice and who attend our Young Adults Group at the hospice, also had the opportunity to enjoy the lights with their families.
Tracey, who came along with her daughter Ashley, said, “A big thank you all the Saint Francis Hospice team for arranging the Christmas lights trip.
“It was a lovely, relaxing trip and all the little treats on board the bus made it extra special. We would also like to thank you for continuing to support young adults. It is much appreciated.”
