Vicky Miles Gale - Voluntary Services Project Manager
My name is Vicky and I am delighted to have joined Saint Francis Hospice as Voluntary Services Project Manager, along with my colleague Charlotte who is the Voluntary Services Administrator. My role is to review and plan the development of voluntary services so that it can support the hospice in the coming years, whilst Charlotte is leading the day-to-day administration of the service.
Volunteering has so many benefits for people. Volunteers often feel that their volunteering activity means they are giving something back - either to the hospice or to the wider community. There is a social element to volunteering which sees friendships and connections develop between people who may never have met otherwise. And volunteering can help build skills and experience - either for future education and careers, or as a general interest.
The hospice is fortunate to have a large number of volunteers, but we need many more. Our volunteers help in so many ways. Some people volunteer on the wards providing additional interaction with people receiving care. We have a group of volunteer gardeners who keep the grounds at the hospice looking beautiful - providing a lovely environment for those who want to spend time in nature and a pleasing view for those who cannot go outside. We rely heavily on volunteer drivers who help bring people to the hospice to attend for treatment or support, regularly take specimens to the local hospital, or deliver equipment to people at home.
At the hospice, there are a range of roles available to help support the care we deliver to local people who need our compassionate and end of life care. All of our current volunteer vacancies are advertised on our website. If you are interested in volunteering and have a skill-set that doesn't fit one of our existing roles, please get in touch so that we can discuss how you can help us. We are really keen to develop new roles that help people receiving care. And Charlotte and I share a passion for inclusion so are looking forward to seeing how we can open up opportunities at the hospice to our whole community.
The hospice is a lovely place to work and volunteer so if you have an interest in joining us, we look forward to hearing from you. Please see the volunteer section of our website at sfh.org.uk/volunteer
